Our condolences go to Janet and her family, who sadly lost their lovely rescue dog, Cara.  Unfortunately Cara ran after a deer and got onto a road, where she was hit by a van.  Cara was a beautiful and gentle natured dog.  She had only just started agility, but her confidence was building each week, and will be greatly missed.

Congratulations to Duessa with Jess for winning another grade 5 agility at 5 Rivers, and to Sue Williams with Rhum for winning a grade 4-5 agility at Derbyshire.

Many thanks to you all for your support and well wishes after the devastating news about Toby. He's had his 2nd session of chemo. today and is making good progress. Once we've built his fitness up, he's allowed to do agility so long as enjoys it and doesn't exhaust himself - so you haven't seen the back of us yet! He's getting used to endless tummy tickles at the vets and will expect the same from you all. Love, Ros & Toby.

From all at Whirlwind we would like to send our love and hope to Ros with Toby.  Toby has just been diagnosed with cancer and although he is currently been given chemo, the vets say his future is not long term.  Ros says 'At the moment he's surprisingly perky though resting alot (he's not allowed any exercise at all - even gentle walking) - eating well so hopefully we'll see his weight go up a bit.'.  Toby has had a fantastic agility year and has a great bond with Ros, so this news is very sad.  Please send your positive thoughts.

Wow, what a weekend, WELL DONE!! to;

DANGEROUS HUSKY KILLS OTHER DOG ON WHITMOOR COMMON

Dear Sir/ madam  I would like to report a dangerous dog which attacked and killed my jack russel on whitmoor  common near Guildford last saturay  3rd  June 06 between 9 and 10 pm. This dog was a husky , I believe it was a Siberian type husky. It is about the size of a german shepherd. mostly white with some  darker markings. It also had very piercing blue eyes.

Now the reason I am reporting this incident is out of concern for the dog which killed mine and concern that the owner (a woman middle aged wearing a white top with blue slacks and with platinum, short  hair and dark eye make up ) had no control over it as it was not on a lead . it did not respond to her calling it as it came across us and our dog and instantly attacked.  She had a note of fear in her voice as she was calling   as if she had this happen before.  My dog a small Jack russel tried bravely to stand up for herself before trying to get away as the husky grabbed her. My friend somehow managed to get the husky off by grabbing it and trying to force open its jaws .  the husky did eventually submit to him and let my dog go. My dog ran off a short distance but even I could see she was done for as her intestines were hanging out of her. We managed to get her to the vet where the woman who owned the husky said she would meet us , she never showed up and the vet was closed.  We had to rush her into farnham vets after we found that another emergency vet was busy. She was put to sleep 2 hours after being half gutted alive by a dog who had no business running loose anywhere let alone whitmoor common. I am trying to circulate this story to warn as many dog owners as possible especially those with children too as this dog may well attack anything small that moves in a “prey” like manner.

The fact that there was no warning from the owner or from the dog  shows that this dog was out of control. An offence under the dangerous dogs act which I enclose a section of underneath this text.

What makes this worse was that the woman ran off without staying to see if we could be helped nor did she turn up at the vet like we asked her too. Now im saddled with the loss of my best friend  and vets bills to boot. I wish to find her so I can prosecute her and have the husky assessed for retraining I DO NOT WISH IT TO BE DESTROYED IF  POSSIBLE. I believe that she is an irresponsible owner and needs to take responsibility before this tragedy happens again with another dog or a child. I have reported the incident to the police and the dog warden. I included the incident number for those who may wish to contact the police if they have any information. I believe however that  this lady will not come back to whitmoor common for sometime and may indeed go to other commons in the area and put others at risk. The surrey wildlife trust is putting up warning notices on whitmoor common but I fear that other dog walkers will be unaware in other areas. Pleas contact me if you know this dog or its owner so I can reclaim my vets fees and make sure another tragedy does not occur… I  have just spoken to the police who have given me an incident number on the phone but have admitted that they will do nothing about this as it is down to the dog warden, even though this Is a a criminal offence on the part of the dog owner. I am disgusted that the taxes I pay do not even entitle me as a dog owner , to the protection and investigation by the police even though a criminal offence has been committed.I know it was “only” a dog but she was my  friend and who knows ? maybe a child will get attacked before anything is done?  God forbid. Scott

Dangers of feeding dogs GREENIES

I have a warning to pass on with a story to tell of my own..... On the way back from the Dobe National this year, I was walking one of the dogs at the airport waiting for the owner to return our rental car when the dog decided to throw up.....I was shocked to see a mass of green rubber-like  material and immediately called the owner. The mass looked like  something you would see in the pad under a carpet. I was assured the dog did not shred anything...and that the only thing the dog had been given to eat  recently was a "Greenie"...one of those formed green dog treats that are supposed to clean the teeth and are shaped like  a toothbrush. I couldn't believe one of  those pressed dog treats would reconstitute into what looked like a  mass of green foam rubber pieces! Well, after getting home my friend and I did an experiment....cut up one of those things and soaked it in water overnight....low and behold a huge and I mean huge!  mass of foam rubber crap! Certainly NOT digestible! We  both made a  note to never feed those things again...and then last night in the Seattle area the newscast did a piece  on...you guessed it GREENIES! A whole story about how dogs are DYING  from blockages after eating those stupid things! Here is a link to the article....turns out they are NOT 100% digestible....DUH!

Well Done to Joanne Apostolou with Zellik for qualifying for the ABC at Newton Heath. Sue and Whirlwind Agility.

Dangers of Feeding Dogs' Grapes and Raisins From Alison Stewart

My 4 ½ year old Lab managed to get hold of a bunch and within 24 hours was diagnosed with acute kidney failure, he is still seriously ill and I would not like to see other people watching there pets get so poorly so quickly. My vet was unaware of the fact grapes are toxic in large quantities, but fortunately for me the nurse had read something in passing so bloods were taken very quickly.

It is still too early to say what Scooby’s outcome will be, but the death rate from cases in America would appear to be 50:50.  If this could just get people talking and thinking twice of using these foods as training treats it would be a great start to preventing these deaths or at least getting them treatment early.  As yet the reasons are unknown as to what causes the problems but pesticides and sprays have been ruled out.

Well done Richard Outten & Jess for coming 2nd in Open Jumping at Haybarn Ltd show. From Karen
